SKETCH WORD MAP OF KIRKCALDY TOWN CENTRE

This is a simple doodle sketch word map which informs about where everything is in the town centre. It was possibly influenced or inspired by the fantastic textural info maps produced by NIGEL PEAKE. I find his work inspiring and this was just an attempt to try and emulate a similar artwork piece for KIRKCALDY.
It made me consider that we always think of the town layout in terms of roads and streets, but when drawing this sketch map, imagination allows the thought that every space surrounded by tarmac and pavements are actually ‘ISLANDS’. Every ‘ISLAND’ has its own eco system and identity, based on its location, aspect and architectural formation. The balance could be purely residential or that another ISLAND may have a mix of housing, green space and retail. Another might have industrial, commercial and civic significance? Maybe we could identify places in towns by their unique ISLAND DISTRICTS. ? What do you think about this thought ?
